Working with a visionary on a project with a health conscience was a privilege. The Willow Health Restaurant & Bar in Kingston is a completely gluten-free restaurant. Even the beverage offer at the bar has been selected in a bid to set a new standard, with the first bar in the UK to be completely gluten-free.
Everything on the menu has ‘food as medicine’ at its heart to appeal to the health conscious and to welcome the health challenged. With an emphasis on hearty dining with a twist – every single ingredient on the breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar menus have carefully selected to create an innovative fusion of taste and function, with a strong focus on seasonality, using local suppliers where possible. Dishes have been created to reflect specific dietary needs for balanced plates that are both nutritious and delicious.

It’s certainly an experience specially crafted with nutritional expertise, thought and care for those who want to learn more about naturally enriched living. The focus on ‘naturally enriched’ continues at the bar, with a range of sulphite-free organic and biodynamic wines, award-winning gluten-free beers and ciders, spirits from small-batch producers and cocktails with a ‘healthy’ twist, and a unique range of herb-infused gins and vodkas. And for coffee and tea connoisseurs, the menu offers daily kick-starters that may prove rather hard to resist. To kick-start the day customers can grab power breakfast smoothies and a special blend of coffee roasted exclusively for The Willow from fresh green beans via ‘direct’ trade. It’s an experience your body will thank you for.
We are thrilled that just six months after it opened its doors The Willow scooped the Best Eating Out Award at the Free From Awards at Food Matters Live last November, and has since been featured in many magazines and newspapers, haled as a completely unique dining experience.
The Willow is in a unique position, linked to integrative medicine clinic Irrefutable Health, where functional medicine, nutritional therapy, chiropractic, podiatry, medical herbalism and clinical Psychoneuroimmunology are in daily practice. As soon as a clinic session ends, within a few feet of treatment rooms, patients can relax and enjoy all The Willow has to offer – which doesn’t end at food and drink. Health education underpins everything here, and educational nutrition and lifestyle courses are being offered in the state-of-the-art teaching kitchen and events theatre.
